Incompetency Reigns

Here is the aforementioned celebration of High Fructose Corn Syrup. It's kind of like delicious delicious fattening poison. Don't get me wrong, I love a snickers now and again, but the more I read about this substance the angrier I get, and the harder it is to unwrap that candy bar. I understand that sugar is an expensive product, but at least it is a naturally occurring substance. It's too bad this fake food is so tasty. I think I need some cherry coke and some Cheetos with my Reese's peanut butter cups.

Actually Newman's Own are even better. And on that note, I'd like to pay my respects to Cool Hand Luke and all of his delicious and natural food products. Thanks Paul. You'll be missed.

* I have been trying to figure out the picture thing, and even signed up for Picasa. Now I can't figure out Blog Spot or Picasa. I need help.

Boring Procrastination Post, but with pictures

Due South, looking out our apartment window towards downtown.

Due East, looking at the Cascades at sunrise

Due West, looking at the Olympics at Dusk

The Olympics again. Hill, not the buildings used for the Olympics, but the Mountain Range.

Honestly, I have done most of my work for the weekend. I only have one case left to read for my 9:30 class, half a chapter left for my 12:30 class, and one chapter and a case left for Tuesday's class. All in all I feel like I have been fairly productive as far as school is concerned.

It has been a beautiful several days in Seattle, and I would like to share these two photographs I snapped from our apartment/rooftop desk. One is an early morning shot and the other is a sunset picture. Keep in mind this is not fine art, and my digital camera leaves much to be desired, namely the intoxicating dark room scents....mmm...developer...
I meant for the pictures to be below the post, but apparently I don't know how to do that.

So anyway, in addition to all the reading and napping I did today, Katie, Becca, and I went to Queen Mary's Tea Room here in Seattle for a lovely afternoon tea. I meant to take pictures of the overly frilly room (think Umbridge's office from Harry Potter) and the over the top display of delicious snacks, but we were all so hungry, I forgot.  Anyway it was a delicious treat, as always.  I love snacks, particularly when presented in bite size portions on fancy stacked platters.

Speaking of bite size portions, after tea, Becca and I stopped at Bartell's for the randoms one goes to a drug store for, and I was amazed and appalled at the Halloween Candy Display.

So, I have a picture I want right here <  >. Why will the stupid program not let me put it where I want it. How am I supposed to rant about the evils of HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP without my visual aid!! If I knew about this "html" nonsense, I could probably do it, but if I knew HTML, I wouldn't need a program like blogspot, would I? Ugh. Maybe I should have gone with wordpress.

I suppose my inability to post my pictures where I wanted to saved me (and the few who may read this) a tirade on Corn Syrup, but rest assured that I hate it, both for health reasons and the agro-economic impact it has had on this country.

And in Baby news, we went to a "Gently Used" Baby Sale, where we picked up baby stuff, but alas no babies. I personally think the title of the sale was a bit misleading. Anyway, we got a jogging stroller for 35 bucks (score), an infant car seat with base, a boppy (which is apparently a neccesity) and a sleeping bag type thing to keep kids warm in strollers. I also got tiny little baby hangers, after I learned baby clothes don't really fit on adult size hangers. Anyway, again, I took a picture of the cuteness but since I can't figure out how to post it where I want, I just won't. Boo.

I should probably get to that case I need to have read by 9:30. Or maybe I can just read it on the bus tomorrow morning...

Is it good to be back?

So...I decided to spend three mornings a week at the Ballard Community Center. You know, an hour and a half Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays shouldn't be too hard, right? Spend some time with the kids, but not have too much responsibility. Eat some breakfast, earn a couple dollars, even do some printing for school, not such a bad racket. Well, not so bad till a kids pukes all over Virginia on the State Rug. Ugh. Vomit. I don't think there are too many substances grosser than vomit. I guess its something that I need to get used to, but like almost everything else in this parenting universe, it is something that I am very unprepared for!

Speaking of unprepared, I just made a list of everything I need to have read by Monday. Wow. It's a lot of words. And they are all online! Does anyone else have that thing where your eyes shake if you read too much on the computer screen? Anyone? Anyway, I have to print things out, for my eyes, for my notes, and most recently, because I can no longer transport my computer back and forth. So I have to go to Kinkos, I could go to school, but I just as soon go to Kinkos. I should start soon if I want to get through it by Monday, but I think I'll watch the View and then get started. Or eat some lunch. Or watch some Court TV. Oh, and of course, I need to go for a swim or walk. And then there might be some laundry to do. And maybe I should start thinking about what we'll have for dinner tonight. I just don't have time for my work AND all my procrastinating.

Dreams Really Do Come True

So, about a month ago, I had a very vivid dream where the monitor on my laptop just kind of broke in half and dangled limply. In the dream, I was in a room with my friends Julia and Hillory. Julia was eating a delicious looking roast vegetable sandwich made with vegetables from her very own garden. Her solution to my broken monitor was two large slices of carrots and a slice of eggplant. Hill rolled her eyes. However, it worked perfectly and Julia was able to say to Hill smugly, "See, if you just listened to me..." And I had a working computer. That was the dream.

Now the rant...
Today, I came home from my first day of school(!) and promptly went to check my email, as I always do when I get home from anywhere. Well, much to my surprise, I could barely lift the monitor from the keyboard. Turning it around, I learned that the hinges had exposed wires (I didn't even know that there were wires in the hinges.) So, while the computer is technically sound, it is now structurally compromised. I took it to the Apple Store, where the very nice guy at the genius bar told me it would be 500 dollars to fix the "accidental structural damage" 500 dollars!! For a working computer that just doesn't stand up! His other suggestion was using it as a desktop. Which would be fine, if I hadn't just bought a new power cord and battery! Ugh.
Anyway, as I wait to make a decision, my monitor is balanced precariously on its hinges, slightly wobbling at each key stroke. My dad told me to refer to it as a floppy disk. Haha.

So, spending 500 dollars on an ancient computer (its an iBook G4 from four years ago) seems ridiculous, especially cause it technically still works. But spending 1,000 dollars on a new computer seems twice as ridiculous (get it, that's a math joke), albeit fun because new computers are awesome. Of course, with a baby on the way, it would seem there are about a million better ways to spend that money.  If only I had two large slices of carrot and a slice of eggplant, we wouldn't even have a problem.

In baby news, he's moving around like crazy and I am having round ligament pain like no body's business. I thought I was going to fall over while walking around today. This baby better be awesome, is all I'm saying, because this stabbing thing is not cool!

In school news, the first day went well. I like my professor. She is sassy and a strong proponent of sarcasm, which I love! I'm sure I'll have more to report on that as time goes by, and I have more work I should be doing instead of writing nonsense on this blog.

First Viable Pictures of Futureman.

Can you see it?

Baby Feet & Ghost Face

Baby Belly

Those of you who have gone through the whole baby making process know that it is a bizarre experience, some go so far as to use the word "beautiful". I don't think I've gotten to that place yet.  So far... weird is the best word I can think of.  I am just not used to having something poking me from the inside.  It is all very alien to me. I am however looking forward to the day when it (he) can be detected from the outside. I know Rob is looking forward to that day.
In other news, school starts tomorrow. I start Managing Politics and the Policy Process tomorrow morning. Am I nervous? I'm not, and that worries me. No thats a lie. I just hope I am able to keep up with this course work. I wasn't such a fantastic student the first time around, and I am just hoping I don't slip back into my old ways this time. At least I can't smoke pot. I think that might have been the downfall back at old LC.
I need to learn how to put pictures and stuff up. But for now, my husband just walked in the door, and I just might pay attention to him tonight.

Just like everyone else.

Well well well. I have considered doing this blog thing for quite some time now.  This is the first time I've actually written anything. I'm curious if I'll even manage to post this. My problem is doubt. Will these musings be ridiculous? It's likely. Should that stop me? We'll certainly find out, won't we.

Is there a point to this blog? I suppose the main focus (foci) of these mindless rants will be this crazy pregnancy, that I was (am still) woefully unprepared for, and this crazy adventure called Graduate School, which seems to be more work than my chronically lazy, unprepared, tv-loving, now pregnant body and mind seem to be prepared to embark upon.  In all honesty, this is probably just one more outlet for procrastination. There's only so much to do on Facebook, you know what I mean...don't pretend you don't.
